The Department Head is responsible for administering an academic department within a college which may include and is not limited to, faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student advisement, departmental budgeting and budget control, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the department.
Description of Primary Duties:
Serve as Department Head of the Department of Reading, Foundations and Technology which includes undergraduate and graduate courses in Reading Education, Foundations of Education, Educational Technology, Middle School Education, Educational Research, and Multicultural Education, (http://education.missouristate.edu/RFT/default.asp). Administrative duties include, but are not limited to, budgeting; hiring, supervision, and evaluation of personnel; student issues; scheduling; grant writing; program development; and taking a leadership role in accreditation compliance. The Department Head facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with all persons, including those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Department Head are prescribed by the College Dean in concert with guidance from the Provost. A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment is required.
Terminal degree in an education related field and university experience in administration and/or management skills is required, as well as a minimum of three years teaching experience in Pre-K-12 schools. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and inclusive excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.
