Reporting to the Associate Dean and Director of Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), the Director of Student Recruitment is the main point of contact for all future incoming students across the academic departments in CALS. As such, the Director should have previous work, training, or educational experience necessary to represent the various majors and career paths open to CALS undergraduates. This position will be the CALS' liaison with Virginia Tech's Office of Undergraduate Admissions, departments within the college, high schools, and internal and external stakeholders and organizations. The position will become a member of the Academic Programs transfer student team. Responsible for all communications with future students and families in terms of advising on the admissions process, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and coordination of student visits. Responsible for coordinating efforts with departments to achieve a high yield of students offered admission into CALS and to implement programs to attract students from under-represented regions; also responsible for working with CALS faculty and staff to educate future students about the career opportunities with CALS majors. Other duties are to work with our College Ambassadors on various evening or weekend student recruitment and retention events. Travel within Virginia and surrounding states for recruiting activities will be expected.
Master's degree in relevant field (CALS/CALS related or higher education administration), or combination of Bachelor's degree and applicable experience.
Experience implementing student guidelines, rules, and regulations.
Experience with U.S. higher education and the university admissions process. Experience advising students in a higher education environment.
Ability to adapt well to unexpected situations and re-prioritize work according to changing circumstances.
Demonstrated oral and written communication, organizational, database, and time management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other staff.
Familiarity with student information systems.
Familiarity with social media and web-based recruitment efforts.
