Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid and the University Director of Financial Aid, the Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid will manage and report on financial aid services for Yale College, work with the thousands of Yale College students who receive need-based scholarships, and be responsible for administering an annual financial aid budget of $130 million. The Director will work in close collaboration with the Provost, Dean of Yale College, University Director of Financial Aid, and Dean of Undergraduate Admissions to establish effective financial aid policies, practices and communications strategies and provide leadership in the national conversation on access and affordability in higher education. The Director will lead a team of 8-10 full time financial aid professionals in the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid, which will be responsible for administering all financial aid to undergraduates and will provide excellent service to students and families.

Required Skill/ability 1: Expert-level knowledge of compliance and regulatory policies and practices in financial aid. Comprehensive understanding of federal and institutional methodology at a highly selective institution. An appreciation of the liberal arts and desire to make a world-class education affordable to students, regardless of background or income.
Required Skill/ability 2: Ability to administer financial aid services while exercising fair and professional judgement. Ability to counsel students and families on personal finance matters relating to college attendance.
Required Skill/ability 3: Ability to lead and build a strong team. Strong project management skills. Familiarity with software systems that support recruiting, communications, and admissions review. Knowledge of and expertise with online financial management systems (such as Banner, PowerFAIDs, Jenzabar, Slate, etc.).
Required Skill/ability 4: Evidence of creative strategic thinking and demonstrated ability to solve problems, plan solutions, and implement and evaluate solutions. Strong analytical and report writing skills as well as ability to present highly complex issues and data to diverse groups for discussion and action.
Required Skill/ability 5: Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations. Candidate should demonstrate empathy, active listening skills, practical sensibility, a sense of humor, responsiveness, and ability to negotiate challenging and sensitive issues fairly.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Master's Degree and 8-10 years of experience in a related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Second language proficiency.
Required Licenses Or Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree in related field. Seven years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
