The department of Pathology at UCLA Health is looking for a research associate to work in Clinical Microarray Core (TCGB). The research associate will primarily work on next generation sequencing (Ion Torrent and HiSeq2000) and microarray experiments. The associate will work in coordination with the Core Director in developing and conducting new protocols and applications, and assisting with the implementation of new assay/sequencing platforms and other laboratory development projects. The incumbent must be detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks under a certain timeline. The research associate will lead other laboratory personnel in pre-analytical and post-analytical activities, including accessing and processing of primary specimens, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering laboratory supplies and troubleshooting specimens’/test problems. The incumbent will also manage and direct other laboratory personnel and academic staff, in executing ongoing laboratory bio-safety and maintenance duties.
The preferred candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology, genetics, or biotechnology, and must be familiar with a wide range of molecular biology skills. As part of an ongoing translational research for developing microarray-based assays, the SRA III incumbent will work independently and in coordination with Core Director in developing and conducting new protocols and applications, and assisting with the implementation of new assay platforms and other laboratory development projects. The SRA III incumbent must have a strong background in the field of microarray and NGS technologies with a wide range of molecular biology skills, including DNA and RNA extraction, reverse transcription, in vitro transcription, PCR, QRT-PCR, microarray hybridization and array-based SNP genotyping. The incumbent must be detail-oriented and is able to handle multiple tasks under a certain timeline. The hands-on experience in a microarray/NGS core lab is strongly preferred.
