TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research-Manalis Lab, to work on a fast-paced interdisciplinary project aimed at annotating the transcriptome of single-cells with their biophysical properties. The project will entail careful consideration of study design, fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), RNAseq library preparation, next generation sequencing (NGS), data analysis in R, and communicating results to the lab and larger community. May perform independent research under the supervision of professors Scott Manalis and Alex Shalek.
The Shalek group specializes in leveraging novel single-cell genomic approaches to understand the behaviors of complex biological systems. The Manalis Lab specializes in precision measurement of single-cell mass and other biophysical properties to predict drug sensitivity. The position will allow the applicant to gain experience in these areas, with a specific focus in cancer biology, under minimal supervision. Will gain fundamental skills working in an interdisciplinary and technologically-driven environment and gain access to the intellectual resources present across all multiples labs at MIT.
REQUIRED: a bachelor's degree, preferably with course work in biology, chemistry, and/or genomics; at least two years of specialized lab experience (which may include experience gained as an undergraduate); strong time management, organizational, and communication skills; ability to balance multiple projects; demonstrated problem solving skills; and the ability to learn quickly and work both independently and as part of a team.
