The Skorton Center for Health Initiatives within Cornell Health seeks an entry-level professional to utilize near-peer student connections to promote and deliver innovative strategies to address student mental health and well-being, alcohol and other drugs, sexual violence, and hazing, as well as other emerging student issues, e.g., positive body image. The focus of this job is to contribute to campus health initiatives, and to provide BASICS (Brief Alcohol and Other Drugs Screening and Intervention for College Students), a psycho-educational intervention that uses motivational interviewing skills and a harm reduction approach.
This position will have opportunities for professional and leadership development, and is under the supervision of the Director of the Skorton Center for Health Initiatives with support from the staff in the Skorton Center.
This term position is scheduled from 08/01/2017 to 06/23/2018
- Bachelor's degree (2016 or 2017) from Cornell University with a major in Human Development, Policy Analysis and Management, Global and Public Health Sciences, Psychology, Biology, Nutrition or closely related field.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated success with public speaking.
Training in basic listening skills and experience in a peer advisor or counselor role (e.g., EARS counselor, Resident Advisor/Student Assistant, House Manager, Cornell Red Key Athlete Honor Society, etc.)
Excellent professional writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in computer use (word processing, database management, and internet).
Near-peer connection to the student community.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Ability to provide empathetic support.
This position may require some evenings and weekends.
Strong commitment to collaborative work.
Welcoming of diversity, accessible, and "user-friendly" to students and the student affairs community at Cornell.

Interest and/or experience in public health and/or interest in exploring a career in public health.
Familiarity with behavioral health concepts and/or cultural change concepts.
