Bachelor's degree in a related field. Two years relevant specialist experience providing real-time, meaning-for-meaning, or Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) captioning services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, including one year of experience captioning college-level classes. Training and qualification in Typewell, C-Print captioning software, or CART. Current certification and experience as a sign language interpreter for the deaf and hard-of-hearing preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Services for Students with Disabilities department.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Performs highly advanced specialist duties. Accountable for the execution and follow through of complex and technical responsibilities. Provides real-time, meaning-for-meaning and/or Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) captioning of academic courses and related, educational activities for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Assists in coordinating and monitoring contracted captioning services, including real-time and post-production captioning and transcription. Responds to information requests. Collects, reconciles, and maintains complex data. Coordinates and implements departmental processes. Monitors project timelines and identifies issues. Provides training to Services for Students with Disabilities clients and course instructors in the use of assistive listening devices in classroom settings. Researches developments in captioning and transcription services, and adaptive technologies for deaf students. Assists with proctoring accommodated exams during peak testing periods. Provides assistance with and interprets policies and procedures. May coordinate and supervise program activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
