UW Information Technology is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Web and Content Designer.
The Web Content Designer is responsible for leading and influencing information design and development on the web for UW Information Technology (UW-IT), the University of Washington's central information technology organization. This position designs, codes and modifies online communications and publications and creates graphics, e-newsletters, marketing materials and data visualizations paying specific attention to user experience, accessibility and UW Brand Guidelines within layout and functionality.
This position works within UW-IT's Office of the Vice President and Chief Information Officer and supports the work for four key internal units: Business & Finance, Communications, Human Resources and Organizational Development.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technologies or related degree or experience.
Minimum of three years of experience with web design and graphics production
Strong written and oral communication skills and interaction ability.
Experience with professional design tools, specifically Adobe Creative Suite with emphasis on Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
Experience with end-to-end management of content management systems, especially WordPress
Excellent problem solving skills, flexibility and sound judgment
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and act with diplomacy and discretion
Ability to graphically represent and interpret highly complex and technical information in a compelling way
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Ability to plan, schedule, track and prioritize tasks from multiple projects to meet deadlines
Ability to manage large and complex review cycles and adjust work plans as needed
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience working in higher education or large research institution
Experience designing with marketing in mind
Experience taking complex concepts and simplifying using design techniques for easy consumption
Experience working with PHP
Experience communicating and partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience with mobile, responsive design and accessibility in web design and presentation
Experience with data visualization programs, such as Tableau
Experience with Convio, Email on Acid and/or other email marketing tools
Ability to continuously improve and create innovative solutions
Willingness to explore and learn new technologies
Ability to frame information appropriately for different audiences
Ability to work across multiple teams
