Collaborative Computing Solutions (CCS) provides highly-available virtualized environments supporting faculty and staff systems, services, research and collaboration at Virginia Tech.Design and plan improvements to CCS virtualized environments to support compliance requirements, performance optimization, security and scalability
This position has the following responsibilities
Configure, deploy, and manage on premise and cloud based network infrastructure components, including firewalls, switches, VPNs, host servers, and storage systems
Provision and maintain Windows and Linux operating systems, including server setup, installation, administration, security and customer support
Configure and manage Microsoft SQL Server installations
Monitor and analyze the security status of the environments utilizing Microsoft System Center applications and log analytics
Diagnosis, troubleshoot, and consult with guest owners of virtualized systems to resolve issues
Required Qualifications:In order to comply with export control laws, this position is restricted to a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT related field OR significant related expereince.
Significant experience with installing and administering Windows in a Microsoft Active Directory-based environment
Experience or demonstrated knowledge of Powershell and other scripting languages
Experience with network fundamentals including TCP/IP networking (IPv4/IPv6)
Experience with regulatory and legislative authorities including but not limited to HIPAA, FISMA, PII, and FERPA
Experience with installing and configuring security software and hardware applications such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, network mapping tools, and vulnerability scanners
Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to provide leadership in assigned areas
Experience working with Cisco LAN, WAN and network management products
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Ability to exercise confidentiality, good judgment, and critical thinking when working with sensitive issues
Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
Knowledge of data encryption software (TrueCrypt, Microsoft BitLocker, 2Factor etc.) and techniques
Experience supporting customer applications on a hosted Windows server environment
Experience using Microsoft System Center products, including SCCM and SCOM
Experience working with Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technology
Experience with layer 2/3 switch management including Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Nexus configuration and troubleshooting experience
Experience with network management tools and technologies such as Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, Microsoft SCCM/SCOM, and Netflow analyzers
Experience with 3rd-party cloud solutions such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS and developing cloud-based infrastructure and networking between cloud and on-prem solutions
Knowledge of authentication protocols and other methods of providing security for passwords and network communication, including Multi-Factor Authentication.
Previous experience preparing reports/documents and presenting information.
Experience in providing security guidance and training to both technical personnel and end-users.
Relevant professional certifications such as GIAC, GSEC, GCIH, GCIA, GCWN, GISP, MCSE, CCNA
