What will you be doing?
The primary function of the role is to focus on the needs of the business across UW Medicine. You will be responsible for gathering and translating business requirements into specific designs and configurations and creating detailed requirement specification and use cases. You will be participating in executing functional, integration and regression test plans for new application functionality, product releases and enhancement and regulatory modifications using clinical scenarios.

The Lead Applications Services Analyst (LASA) will operate as the lead point of contact for any and all matters specific to assigned stakeholder groups. The Lead Applications Services Analyst will build and maintain strong, long-lasting stakeholder relationships by developing a solid understanding of business strategic initiatives, current systems, and pain points and developing solution proposals to provide the required support. In this capacity, he/she will ensure the timely and successful delivery of solutions according to stakeholder needs and objectives. The LASA will organize the successful planning, implementation and transition to support of clinical applications that further the mission of patient care, research and teaching.
Key responsibilities include forecasting and tracking the needs of stakeholder groups; clearly communicating the progress of initiatives to the internal team and stakeholders; coordinating plans to support solution delivery, and assisting with high severity requests or issue escalations as needed. Position Complexities:The Lead Applications Services Analyst must work with and reconcile the demands of a large and varied constituency of internal customers across UW Medicine - all within the context of a constrained financial environment. Additionally, this position must manage a large number of activities and multiple projects concurrently, and rely upon excellent organization, and interpersonal skills to ensure that initiatives are completed in a quality manner on time and within budget.
The primary function of the LASA role is to focus on the needs of the business, the ability to successfully deliver over time is directly related to the team's ability to evolve and customer's perception of that evolution. In this difficult environment this position will need to set realistic expectations with customers so the team has a reasonable path to deliver successfully. If appropriate, this person will assist in building a business case to support additional team resources.
As the primary point of contact, this role has the potential to become a bottleneck rather than a facilitator. The person in this role must understand how to guide and direct without micromanaging, dictating, or setting the expectation that they be included in every conversation with the customer. There is no expectation that this role will be the sole contact with assigned customers. There will be existing relationships between customers and team members. This person must have the interpersonal skills to develop relationships with team members which allow him/her to serve as their trusted representative.
Technology is a rapidly changing space that requires a strong commitment to maintaining current skills. In addition to this personal learning commitment, the analyst role has responsibility for helping the team stay current via presentations and knowledge sharing in team meetings, lunch and learns, etc.
Product Lifecycle Ownership (50%)
Understand business change needs, assess the business of those changes, capture and document the assessment and provide recommendations based on findings.
Assume primary leadership responsibility for a portion of the Team ACceSS systems and applications.
Create a vision for the evolution of assigned systems and applications.
Elicit and document requirements in the established form.
Document acceptance criteria.
Create and prioritize the product backlog.
Lead scheduling and resource planning efforts for production cycles.
Manage production cycles to ensure timely product delivery.
Oversee acceptance testing.
Actively manage support issues and risks.
Manage high severity requests or issue escalations as needed.
Manage scope, schedule, and budget for major efforts.
Customer Relationship Management (25%)
Operate as the lead point of contact for any and all matters specific to assigned customers.
Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships.
Develop a trusted advisor relationship with key customer stakeholders and executive sponsors.
Communicate clearly the progress of active initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
Represent Team ACceSS as a committed partner in all customer interactions.
Team Operational Improvements Projects (20%)
Use project management principles to plan, execute, and monitor operational efforts necessary to improve team operations related to product production and support. Operational efforts are projects that are not large enough to be managed via the PMO. Examples of these projects are:
- Develop standards related to the work of the team.
- Develop or refine processes and/or workflows.
- Negotiate processes with other ITS teams.
- Define scope, develop work plans, track status, and provide regular reports on progress and any issues.
- Identify solutions when problems are encountered.
- Proactively identify any issues that might impact the on time delivery of the project and propose options to keep the project on schedule.
- Keep all project stakeholders informed of status.
- Collaborate appropriately with other team members to ensure broad knowledge to drive the project work and proper preparation for operational handoffs.
- Create or update operational documentation associated with the project work.
- Schedule and execute timely operational handoff at the close of a project.
Personal Development Activities (5%)
Participate in user groups and online forums to improve current knowledge of latest technology, and how they may be effectively used to solve business problems.
Maintain awareness of latest technology, application updates and upgrades, advances and participate in team activities to examine when and how new approaches can be applied to the work at UW Medicine. Lead Responsibilities:
- This position will include the regular functional leadership of team staff as well as contract staff in the execution of assigned activities. This leadership includes providing direction to internal and contract staff as well as serving as the primary escalation point for issues and questions.
- This position will also assist in vendor management during the course of application lifecycle.
- Will provide mentorship and guidance to the other members of the team.
| What you'll bring to the table: (minimum requirements) |
Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Technology, Business or other discipline that demonstrates analytical or communication abilities or equivalent combination of education/experience.
8+ years experience must include the following:
5+ years professional IT experience producing requirements for IT applications, systems, or services in which 2+ years of the professional IT experience is in the healthcare industry.
5+ years in a formal project or team leadership position related to support of custom or vendor software. This may be as a business analyst, project manager, program manager, or product manager.
5+ years demonstrated customer service experience effectively working with multiple, diverse stakeholders in a complex environment.
2+ years professional IT experience in the area of planning, designing, building, validating, and implementing IT projects.
Demonstrated knowledge of system development life cycle utilizing latest technologies throughout the system development phases such as using Application Life Cycle Management Software to validate test cases.

8 years of experience in an application service role in complex multi-disciplinary environments such as bedside, operating room, outpatient, and inpatient environments.
Experience working with marketing or medical professionals as stakeholders.

UW Medicine IT Services responds on a 24 x 7 basis, to maintain operational performance at 99.9%.
Requires ability to be on-call rotation as needed for application/system support.
