The Department of Textiles in the Division of Fine Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment, at the rank of Assistant Professor, New Technologies, to begin fall 2017.

Job Qualifications Required:
The Textile Department seeks candidates who understand the intersection of craft and technology, and have an interest in new materials, processes, and design methodologies as they pertain to the vibrant and evolving field of textiles. While an MFA is expected, candidates who hold a BFA and have a substantial record of achievement in the field of design and/or art will be considered.
The search committee will look for a candidate who can teach textile techniques with a focus upon the interactive potential of fibers and fabrics. These may include basic as well as advanced courses that integrate hand making with digital technologies and professional software and equipment.
Candidates should be familiar with emerging technologies and have an understanding and commitment to their relationship to both traditional and new media practices, and be interested in various networks for textile innovation throughout the region and country. The candidate should have a solid foundation in art and design concepts, critical making, and contemporary issues. The ability to lead partnered projects, curate and develop exhibitions and events, and contribute to an ambitious range of departmental activities is required.
Job Qualifications Preferred:
A minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience is preferred.
