The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Portland State University Graduate School of Education is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level who works in K-12 Inclusive Teacher Education.
The successful candidate for this position will primarily teach in teacher preparation programs that span the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education, preparing teachers with dual licensure as both a special educator and general educator. This position also involves teaching in advanced degree programs within the Graduate School of Education and Department of Curriculum and Instruction, serving as an academic advisor in both the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Special Education, and cohort leadership.
The primary teaching responsibility will be to teach in the Secondary Dual Educator Program (SDEP) and the Inclusive Elementary Educator Program (IE2P). These merged programs are full-time two-year graduate programs leading to a master’s degree and dual licensure by integrating the pedagogy of general and special education. Teachers receiving this dual preparation will be able to give all students fuller access to the content in elementary, mid-level and secondary classrooms.
-Earned doctorate in Inclusive Education or related field equivalent from an accredited program by time of start date.
-Commitment to interdisciplinary orientation, including the ability to integrate across knowledge paradigms.
-Record of ability to foster community relationships in inclusive settings.
-Engage in learning collaboratively with students, community partners, and colleagues.
-Actively works to disrupt practices and paradigms within educational systems and settings that are oppressive or marginalizing to students, their families, or colleagues.
-Evidence of scholarly accomplishment or scholarly agenda.
-Clearly articulates current and next steps in own research agenda.
-Successful completion of a background check.
-Evidence of collaboration in inclusive settings and across departments.
-Experience co-teaching in classroom.
-Experience teaching at university level.
-Teaching experience at the middle school level or experiences that include both elementary and secondary level teaching.
