The National Center for Risk and Economic Analysis of Terrorism Events (CREATE) at the University of Southern California (USC) seeks qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research position in Risk Analysis, Decision Analysis, Behavioral Science, and Operations Research. CREATE is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security National Center of Excellence in research and education. We do independent research in risk analysis, decision analysis, risk perception, economic assessment, and risk management related to terrorism, man-made and natural hazards. Examples of CREATE projects include risk assessment of WMDs, development of risk communication messages, adaptive adversary modeling, experimental studies of public perception of disasters, economic consequences of terrorism and natural disasters, measuring resilience, application of mathematical game theory to security problems, and the analysis of complex systems. CREATE has completed more than 250 research studies since its founding in 2004 (create.usc.edu).
The appointment entails work with internationally recognized faculty in terrorism and disaster analysis and with post-docs and graduate students at the USC Los Angeles campus. The successful applicant will develop and apply models for enhancing the security of the nation and will participate in extramurally funded projects, develop their own research program, write proposals, publish research, and travel as required. The Center will give preference to candidates with training in risk and decision analysis, risk communication, or behavioral studies related to risk and to candidates who have developed a research program in homeland security related issues, and have a demonstrated track record of research funding and publication. A small amount of teaching may be permitted. Anticipated starting date is January 1, 2017.
Eligibility: Applicants should have a recent Ph.D. in risk or decision analysis, operations research, or a closely related field. Applicants will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and promise, regardless of nationality.
