The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation has an opening for a Senior Project Manager. The position will work on the Comprehensive Research Enterprise Solutions Team also known as the CREST Team.
The CREST team aims to develop a customized system to provide requisite online tools for university researchers, business managers and administrators to manage funded research activities at Virginia Tech. As a member of the CREST Team, the Senior Project Manager serves as the primary team member responsible for managing the matrixed team of research division and IT division members to implement the team's goals, objectives, and directives relating to IT systems, processes, procedures, and workflows. The Senior Project Manager also serves as the primary liaison between Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and the Virginia Tech Office of the Vice President (OVPR) IT staff as well as other University IT resources.
-Reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Programs
-Works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Programs Administration, the Pre-Award Director, and the Post-Award Director to develop business requirements, redesign business processes, and purchase, develop and implement automated solutions in alignment with their strategic goals.
-Provides process redesign and implementation teams with a source of comprehensive knowledge of federal and university policies and procedures and sponsor requirements pertaining to Sponsored Research.
-Proposes and negotiates acceptable compromises and solutions when OSP automation and redesign goals impact the processes and operations of other university departments.
-Develops training materials and coordinates training teams intended to inform and educate faculty and staff regarding process changes and automation that impact their interaction with OSP
-Makes regular contributions to the morale and success of OSP personnel by encouraging participation in process design teams and highlighting progress.
-Continue and maintain the deployed already developed systems.
-Represents the implementation team in management meetings, assists in the team member selection process, and facilitates team member training.
-Serves as supervisor of rotating teams specifying business requirements for various automation and redesign efforts launched to enhance the efficiency and customer service effectiveness of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).
-Provides effective leadership by facilitating the input of team members in the establishment and accomplishment of individual project goals.
-Coordinates the testing and validation efforts to ensure process/system changes will integrate effectively into the overall business process.
-Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
-Assists the project team leads with all aspects of project management and administration responsibilities as necessary including project planning, resource planning, status reports, project documentation, issue resolution, etc.
-Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, IT or related field(s) or a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, IT or related field(s) with significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
-Extensive experience with consulting and/or business process analysis and redesign.
-Demonstrated experience on system design and implementation teams.
-Experience in developing and administering training for automated business processes.
-Previous experience and success supervising and administering a team.
-Excellent communication, organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
-Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment; and a strong commitment to customer service.
-Demonstrated experience in the management of research administration in a university or an agency funding research.
-Demonstrated expertise in agile business process analysis or re-engineering, and project management including project implementation.
-Demonstrated experience in problem solving, project management tools, presentation skills and leadership skills.
