An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join the Knight Center for Early Detection Research (CEDR) as a Project Scientist at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. The individual will work alongside Dr. Sadik Esener, Director of CEDR and other CEDR Scientists to develop major scientific project initiatives in the laboratory and aid in overseeing the implementation and execution of identified projects. The CEDR research program is currently building expertise in technology development, prognosis assessment, population health and prevention and early therapeutics for early cancer detection and treatment. The Centers goals are to rapidly develop and translate novel assays/techniques/tests/treatments into the clinic via clinical trials and/or new companies.
The individual will be responsible for leading a collaborative research project targeted to assay or technology development that advances cancer early detection. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining a high level of professional expertise in the field; supervising and providing guidance and mentorship to other scientists within the laboratory; designing and directing or executing experiments; and establishing laboratory procedures and systems that enforce and maintain a high level of organization in the lab. The individual will have demonstrated success in leading, managing and participating in large collaborative projects or programs and a distinguished record of scientific and technical accomplishments. S/he will have the ability to gain the confidence of other scientists, and staff, and the ability to develop strategic relationships and partnerships with key constituents.
Highest rank in the Research Staff Series and may be granted Principal Investigator Status upon Institutional approval. Must be actively engaged in the development and submission of project/funding proposals and technical reports, in conjunction with other scientists in CEDR. This person will have a documented track record of leadership of collaborative projects and serve as a critical advisor for a focus area within CEDR. Doctoral degree in a relevant field and 7 years of relevant post-doctoral work experience.

Experience handling chemical and biologically hazardous materials.

Ability to work within a biology research lab where work involves possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low does radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids, presence of carcinogenic substances and human and animal tissues and fluids, including whole animals.
