As part of the Knight Cancer Center, the OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine (OCSSB) is investing heavily in development of new biomolecular imaging approaches including multiple forms of electron and super-resolution microscopy. The recruited faculty member will have an academic appointment in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, with primary responsibilities for research, graduate training and opportunities in medical education. He/she will provide leadership in the OHSU/FEI Living Laboratory within OCSSB, currently centered around an FEI Titan Krios, with additional recruitment and expansion of instrumentation, taking advantage of collaborations with FEI Inc. and Intel Corp. in Portland, Oregon to develop new capabilities in image collection and processing. The position will report to the chair of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and also to the Director of OCSSB.
The duties of this position include:
Development and maintenance of a vibrant extramurally-funded research program. This program will involve some combination of fundamental research into the biomolecular processes underlying the cell biology of normal and diseased states, and research into improved methods for high resolution electron microscopy. Such research will also involve the training / mentorship of graduate and post-doctoral scholars.
Leadership within the OHSU-FEI Living Laboratory and the OCSSB Multi-scale Microscopy Core. The incumbent will liaise with FEI, Inc., providing leadership on joint research initiatives, will be the immediate supervisor for technical staff supporting high resolution electron microscopy, will participate in faculty oversight committees, and will lead collaborative initiatives for the ongoing enhancement of Living Lab resources.
Advocacy for opportunities in ultrastructural research at OHSU and beyond. Through maintenance of a visible research program, and active attempts to catalyze collaborations, the incumbent will maximize the impact of the Living Lab among other research centers at OHSU.
Mentorship the incumbent will provide guidance to junior investigators as OHSU builds this research area into one of international standing.
Training the incumbent will contribute to class-room and other activities involved in the training of Ph.D. and medical students, as directed by the Chair.
Education: A doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Phil. or M.D.) in a biomolecular / biomedical field.
Experience: 8+ years as a faculty member / independent investigator, and with current rank equivalent to Associate or Full Professor with tenure.
Record: Publications that document high-impact contributions and a record of sustained extramural funding.
