The English Department of Northeastern University invites applications for a position in poetry and poetry writing, to begin in fall of 2017. We are seeking a scholar of modern and contemporary poetry, specializing in issues of race and social justice, who is also a practicing poet. The person appointed in this position will teach modern and contemporary poetry at the graduate and undergraduate levels and creative writing classes at the undergraduate.
The English Department, located in the College of Social Science and Humanities, offers the B.A., the M.A., and the Ph.D., and houses the Writing Program. This position offers the opportunity to join a vibrant community of colleagues doing innovative research in the areas of race, social justice, community engagement, diversity, and inclusion. Department areas of expertise and focus include critical literary studies; writing, rhetoric, and publication; digital humanities; and archival studies and histories of the book. A Ph.D or the equivalent in English or a related field is required. The successful candidate will be an active scholar and published poet with an excellent record of both scholarship and teaching. The position requires a demonstrated commitment to working with culturally and linguistically diverse students as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.
