Northeastern seeks a highly motivated, strategic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader who will develop and execute a visionary philanthropic plan that draws upon the momentum from Northeastern's rapid rise in academic rankings, a track record in fundraising for engineering, and the historic success of the Empower Campaign in its final year. Grounded in its signature co-op program with a growing interdisciplinary research enterprise and expanding global profile, Northeastern is a leading force in experiential education, providing relevant and proven approaches to critical national issues including access to education, corporate and academic partnerships, and economic growth. The College of Engineering has a distinguished history of accomplishment and vast potential for innovation in engineering research and education, particularly in the advanced materials, sustainability, health (including environmental health), and security fields. Northeastern seeks an Associate Dean who will enable the Dean's strategic vision, building upon this success and opportunity in order to deliver the College to the next level of excellence.
As the chief development officer for one of Northeastern University's most prominent colleges, the Associate Dean for Development will provide the strategic and managerial leadership to meet the philanthropic goals of the College of Engineering in accordance with both the current Empower Campaign and the academic priorities of the college as identified by the Dean. More specifically, to sustain long-term success, the Associate Dean will identify new prospective donors and direct the engagement of those capable of making principal and major gifts in support of innovative programs, education, research, and global initiatives.
Reporting to both the Dean of the College of Engineering and the Vice President for Development, the Associate Dean is responsible for planning, developing, and achieving the College's fundraising strategies. The Associate Dean will build and lead a strong team of high-caliber development professionals and draw upon the expertise of central advancement colleagues, while overseeing the daily execution of a fundraising plan and the College's progress toward annual performance goals. In addition to serving the Dean as a principal fundraising resource, the Associate Dean will have the opportunity to partner with University Advancement colleagues to identify and advance multi-disciplinary initiatives at Northeastern that benefit engineering and enhance the collective resources of the university. Leading by example, the Associate Dean will manage a select portfolio of major/principal gift prospects and, via personal visits, will engage, solicit, and close those in portfolio.
The College is seeking a highly entrepreneurial, energetic individual who has 7-10 years of progressive development experience.
Demonstrated ability in strategic planning for a comprehensive, sustained operation necessary to carry out the vision, goals, and fundraising aspirations of the College and the university.
Proven success in fundraising.
Highly collaborative in approach.
Strong management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work closely with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other top level volunteers.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary for building relationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) and internal (deans, faculty, advancement colleagues) constituents.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel.
Bachelors Degree required; Masters preferred. Course work in subjects relevant to Engineering is a plus.
