Advertised Summary Job Description: The IGM's Biobanking Facility serves as the genomic data generating hub for the IGM, drawing in samples from a wide range of internal and external collaborative projects along with clinical samples across Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian. The overarching goal of the IGM is to offer the benefits of scale, expertise, and capacity to facilitate the integration of genomic analysis across CUMC and execute a defining set of internal, world-leading, research projects that integrate directly with clinical care.
As a member of this exciting effort, the Technican B will serve as a technical expert with a laboratory team involved in preparing samples for an array of genetic and genomic assays. Responsibilities: -Perform a variety of genotyping assays including GWAS, TaqMan, and Sanger sequencing; -Perform automated DNA extraction from whole blood; -Perform manual DNA or RNA extractions from whole blood, various tissues, buccal and saliva samples; -Inventory, accessioning, and tracking of incoming samples into the lab; -Plate samples for submissions to the Genome Analysis Facility; -DNA sample measurement and quality control with fluorometry and spectrophotometry; -PCR and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis; -Automated cell sorting; -Perform routine laboratory management activities, including ordering supplies and maintaining inventories, preparing reagents, and managing instruments; -Perform any other assignments deemed necessary by the Lab Manager.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
