The Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University (The State University of New York at Binghamton) invites applications for a faculty member, at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level, in Smart Grids/Operations Research starting in January or September 2017. The Watson School is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment. The position involves teaching at all levels from undergraduate courses to advanced graduate courses, and establishing theoretical and applied research in the area of Smart Grids/Operations Research. Special attention will be shown to candidates with research experience in dynamic control systems of data centers or smart grids optimization/analytics.
The SSIE Department secures over 2.5 million dollars in research funding per year. Our faculty members work collaboratively with over 25 sponsors from industry and federal agencies. With an excellent and growing academic reputation, the SSIE Department is internationally renowned in the electronics manufacturing/electronics packaging arena. Another area of substantial growth is health systems, and our faculty works with several major healthcare organizations across the nation and abroad. The department is continuing significant expansion, with four additional faculty positions, including this position.
The department currently has nineteen faculty members and offers a BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) and MS and PhD Degrees in both Systems Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering (or ISE). SSIE also offers a cutting edge executive health systems program in Manhattan. With about 235 undergraduate, 230 masters and 120 doctoral students, the department is growing in numbers and in its reputation. This is an affiliated position for the University's Smart Energy Transdisciplinary Areas of Excellence (TAE). The successful candidate will contribute to the development of this TAE as an area of research and teaching. The search committee will include members of the Smart Energy TAE steering committee as well as from the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering. The candidate must have a doctoral degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field as well as good leadership skills, and should have an excellent record of scholarly publications. The candidate is expected to have a high potential to initiate and sustain an externally funded multi-disciplinary research program and to take a major role in the Smart Grids/Operations Research program. Application areas of Smart Grids/Operations Research (Queueing Processes, Stochastic Optimization) are required. Teaching experience is preferred.
