Assistant/Associate Professor, Extrasolar Planets
The George Mason University Department of Physics and Astronomy, within the College of Science, invites candidates to apply for our tenure-track faculty position in the field of Extrasolar Planets. The anticipated rank for this position is at the Assistant Professor level. A rank of Associate Professor may be considered for highly qualified applicants. The successful candidate is expected to carry out a vigorous and externally funded research program involving graduate students; teach physics and astronomy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and provide service activities to the department, college, and university.
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field, prior to the first day of this appointment. Well-qualified candidates will have postdoctoral research experience and show promise for developing an independent and externally funded research program. Candidates with expertise in all areas of observational and theoretical studies of extrasolar planets—including detection, characterization, and formation and evolution—will be considered.
