The Assistant Dean for Research Development will work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research, and the Director of Development, Advancement and Foundations to facilitate vigorous growth in CAMD research development and operations, actively building programs and strategies to support, expand and promote faculty research endeavors. The position will report directly to the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Research.
The Assistant Dean for Research Development is a staff position focused on research development, the cultivation of a vibrant environment of research, scholarship and creative inquiry at the College of Arts, Media and Design, and administrative support for research operations. This person will serve as the primary link between CAMD faculty and external funding opportunities, creating means for faculty to become more research-active through raising awareness of RFPs and connecting to an expanded roster of potential funders in areas of CAMD faculty research, scholarship and creative activity. This person will actively identify funding opportunities, work with individual faculty to position their research in relation to specific funding opportunities, and lead proposal and budget development.
The Assistant Dean for Research Development will act as a liaison between the Dean's office and university research development staff, and will serve as a major resource to CAMD faculty in all areas of research, scholarship and creative activity development. The position requires developing a comprehensive, rich and pro-active knowledge of the research needs and interests of CAMD faculty, communicating effectively with all levels of college and university faculty, administration and staff, and facilitating the College's research operations.
This will be a full-time, benefits-eligible position.
A masters degree in fields related to arts, media, design and technology preferred, with demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in working with research development. Prior experience in an academic setting with research development, grant preparation and research management is preferred, although a proven ability to learn about university operations, policies and procedures in relation to public grants, foundation fellowships and corporate partnering is acceptable. Familiarity with established and emerging funding resources in arts, media, design, communications and related fields is required, ranging from public agencies to private foundations and industry. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, are essential, with the ability to incorporate faculty and administrative feedback in developing strategic priorities and implementation plans. The person successfully fulfilling this position must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to work both independently and as part of a multi-level team, and to assume initiative with program-related activities. The ability to create and maintain information infrastructures, faculty-oriented programming and cross-disciplinary thinking is a plus. Must have experience working with MS-Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), the Adobe suite and e-mail systems. Must be highly organized, detail oriented and willing to learn new approaches and communication systems as needed. Must be committed to providing professional, prompt, and courteous service to faculty and administrators.
