The successful applicant must qualify for a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor. The search committee will evaluate academic accomplishment, record of patient care, education, and research, and evidence of the ability to lead, mentor, and manage an academic unit in a university-based setting. The Department's teaching mission includes medical students, residents, and fellows undergoing advanced training. The Chair plays a pivotal role in building and supervising clinical programs that are part of the University of Chicago Medicine enterprise. Research activities in the Department include both basic science and clinical research. The Chair reports to the Dean and Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and is responsible for strategic planning and leadership in research, academic, clinical, and administrative areas.
