Rowan University is a public comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 16,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia, with additional campuses in Camden and Stratford. The Mathematics Department at Rowan University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics to begin September 1, 2017. Candidate?s area of expertise should emphasize research in fields in which advanced mathematics using computational tools is employed in a fundamental way. Preference will be given to applicants whose research provides enriched opportunities for training graduate and undergraduate students for careers in industry. A Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, is required.
Candidates will be expected to maintain an active program of research that is competitive for external funding, as well as teach graduate and undergraduate courses. The candidate also must be able to demonstrate an ability to communicate mathematics clearly and effectively to graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates also are expected to contribute in meaningful ways to service responsibilities at the department level.
The Department of Mathematics has approximately 330 undergraduate and 20 graduate mathematics majors, and offers B.A., B.S., and M.A. degrees. There are 22 full-time, tenure-track faculty. Areas of research include pure and applied mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, and interdisciplinary work with colleagues from other departments and colleges.
