Facilities Construction is the University of Washington's in-house provider of minor alterations, improvements and tenant renovations including architectural, electrical, and mechanical projects, cabinetry, and campus and building signage.
Under the direction of the supervisor and lead, perform journey-level flooring work in the installation and repair of a wide variety of flooring treatments.
Scrape, chip and clean surfaces to prepare for installation of covering.
Apply adhesives, pastes and grouts.
Remove and install tile, linoleum, specialty vinyl and rubber cover base.
Install all types of carpet; measure and cut padding and carpet to size; sew trim and tack in place.
May develop cost estimates for installation and repairs.
Operate power carpet stretcher, electric hammer and drill, use chisel, knife, carpet shears, needle and thread.
Inspect surfaces for damages, estimate time and materials for repair.
Operate machinery such as fork-lifts, scissor-lifts and high rangers. Load and unload materials and supplies.
Operate vehicles such as University vans and trucks to transport tools and equipment to various worksites.
Keep leads and supervisors informed of project status and work progress, required project materials and equipment.
May perform work in other trades.
May instruct semiskilled workers.
Communicate and collaborate with other Facilities Services shops to facilitate work.
Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Comply with all University and Facilities Services policies and procedures, Facilities Maintenance & Construction (FMC) protocols, i.e. Individual Accountability Protocols (IAP). Support all management directives and the vision and values of FMC.
Participate in and follow through with FMC process improvement initiatives (Balanced Scorecard, Lean, Ideas Systems).
Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.
Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and the campus community.

| Valid driver's license recognized by the state of Washington. Must be able to work in a smoke-free environment. May be required to accept variable work shift. Approved footwear must be provided at the employee's expense and worn on the job. Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job. Ability to lift and move heavy materials is required. Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using appropriate safety procedures. Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions. A tuberculosis (TB) test is required for work assignments in nonhuman primate areas and in the UW Medical Center. |
