Candidate banks represent an ongoing need to fill certain types of positions. Facilities Services is the large and diverse organization that operates and maintains the Seattle campus facilities, grounds, utility distribution, transportation, waste management and environmental sustainability programs, and provides engineering direction for campus construction. Facilities Services has intermittent openings in a variety of shops for Temporary Carpenters. These individuals will perform journey-level carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of University facilities.
Duties may include:
Repair or alter buildings, sheds, scaffolds, partitions, concrete forms and other structures from plans, sketches or instructions; may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications;
Build and install cabinets, furniture and other fixtures;
Adjust, repair or replace locks, weather stripping, screens, mirrors, brackets, blinds, linoleum, tile, gutters and downspouts;
Operate power equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, boring and motising machines; clean, sharpen, maintain and repair such equipment;
Clean, sharpen, maintain and repair hand tools;
Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;
Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;
May lead and instruct helpers as required;
May perform work in other trades;
Perform related duties as required.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a carpenter; or full journey status as a carpenter in a union; or four years' applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Carpentry experience in an institutional or commercial setting is highly desirable.
