Founded in 1955, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein) is one of the nation's premier institutions for medical education, basic research and clinical investigation. A full-time faculty of some 2,000 conducts research, teaches, and delivers health care in every major biomedical specialty. The Research Technician B will assist biomedical scientists in the Departments of Developmental and Molecular Biology and Pathology with their studies on the contribution of malfunctioning of autophagy to the physiology of aging and of common age-related disorders such as neurodegenerative disorders and cancer.
The person will:
- perform simple or moderately complex technical procedures
- require occasional guidance
- may occasionally be responsible for ordering supplies and equipment for the laboratory
- rarely train or guide other technical personnel.
- An understanding of simple scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required
- Limited skills in the analysis and interpretation of data may be required.
Duties will include:
- Conduct biochemical experiments and use of cell biology techniques to support research project (including but not limited to protein quantification, protein electrophoresis and immunoblot, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/RT-PCR, basic colorimetric assays, immunofluorescence microscopy, cellular transfection and transduction, bacterial transformation). To achieve an optimum protocol for particular experiments, at times, the technician will be required/authorized to modify or change technical procedures for optimizing various experiments for specific purposes.
- Work with experimental mouse models of aging and age-related diseases. This will require maintenance of the mouse colonies (breeding, checking for animal well-being, tail clipping), administration of treatment to animals, and participation in the experiments related to those animals.
- Understand goals and rationale of the research project and analyze data and interpret results
- Training of new members of the lab in basic routine methods and standard lab procedures
It is expected that the technician will be capable to perform simple to moderate biochemical techniques, fluorescence microscopy techniques, tissue culture techniques and conducting experiments for the research projects. PI/Instructor will assist the technician with complex techniques and complex data interpretation.
- Capable to perform basic cell biology techniques including among others cell culture, mouse organ isolation, cell transfection and transduction and cell viability studies
- Proficient in protein analysis procedures including protein quantification, electrophoresis and immunoblot.
- Capable to perform animal work (colony record maintenance, tail clipping, treatment administration, tissue dissection).
- Organizing capabilities
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and standard software for quantification of images.
- Previous record of involvement in a research project, understanding of research goals and participation of analysis and interpretation of data is highly desirable
