Purpose of Position:
This faculty position will provide teaching and mentoring to undergraduate dental students in patient care and in preparation for private practice. Primary teaching responsibilities will be centered around clinical laboratory teaching, practice management and operations.
Teaching: Responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of pre-doctoral students and general practice post-doctoral residents, in the areas of practice management and running highly productive practices. To include leadership of a Course Director, teaching and mentoring undergraduate dental students in preparation for private practice, service, and scholarship. All faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculum system that includes baccalaureate, graduate, and professional education. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression.
Research: Faculty member may participate in research protocols and will work collaboratively with dental research programs and investigators. For appointment at the rank of assistant professor, the candidate will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
Clinical: Will provide teaching and leadership role in dentistry clinics, seeing patients, working with students, and working collaboratively with other faculty and staff to promote best business practices, and increase clinic productivity. Participation in the Faculty Private Practice; requires demonstrated ability to build a practice.
Service: The faculty member will be expected to serve the Department of General Practice, the School of Dentistry, and Virginia Commonwealth University by serving on committees and task forces as requested. In addition, participation in dentistry-related community service activities is strongly encouraged.
Qualifications: Applicant must have DDS or DMD degree and be eligible for licensure in Virginia.
Experience in the areas of dental materials, dental practice management, or preclinical and clinical skills development.
Must have the ability to teach practice management through clinical and didactic experiences to pre-doctoral students and General Practice post-doctoral residents.
Must have the desire to mentor future dental practitioners.
Experience in research or desire to engage in research, preferred.
Demonstrate the ability to adapt to change and embrace modern technology
Demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to contribute to and participate in a humanistic environment of learning.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability, or acquire and develop such ability, to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence-based oral health care, innovation in student learning, and critical thinking.
