We invite applications for an Assistant Professor position in any of the fields of Data Science, Human Augmentation, Robotics, or related fields. We interpret these areas broadly and invite strong candidates in related specializations. Potential fields include brain-computer interfaces, data mining and knowledge discovery, distributed cognition, gestural and natural interfaces, interactive systems, machine learning, and social computing. We are especially interested in candidates who will flourish in a Cognitive Science Department, and whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity within an academic setting. The department seeks to fill a tenure-track position to begin July 1, 2017. Joint appointment with other departments and the newly formed Contextual Robotics Institute can be considered where appropriate.
The UCSD Department of Cognitive Science was the first of its kind in the world, and, as part of an exceptional scientific community, continues to influence the field it helped to create. The department is truly interdisciplinary, with a faculty whose interests span anthropology, cognitive science, computer science, design, human development, human-computer interaction, information science, linguistics, machine learning, neuroscience, philosophy, psychology, sociology, and vision. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and supervise students, primarily at the undergraduate and graduate level, in topics related to their area of expertise in the Cognitive Science Department, and conduct extramurally funded research. An interdisciplinary perspective and experience with multiple methodologies is highly valued.
