The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, department of Health Promotion and Development is seeking a Lab Manager.
This person is responsible for the overall operation and supervision of the lab. The candidate will act as lab manager and oversee and train other technologists, students, and fellows. The candidate will oversee complex lab operations involving biomedical research. This work includes the development and design of research methods and protocols and the planning, implementation, and interpretation of laboratory experiments. These include assisting in the execution of animal transplantation experiments, collection and purification of cells from skin, lung, and heart, routine tissue culture and flow cytometry, immunohistology, RT-PCR, and other molecular pathology techniques In addition, the candidate will creates and maintain all regulatory documentation including but not limited to biosafety, research mammalian specimen use documentation, chemical safety, and radiation safety. The candidate will work with the regulatory offices to make certain that the group is compliant and individuals within the laboratory are appropriately trained. Also, the candidate will be responsible for equipment and reagent maintenance, including the creation and maintenance of a log of reagents, cell lines, plasmids, and other specimens. The candidate will also be responsible for organizing laboratory purchasing. The candidate will regularly confer with laboratory principal investigators regarding all aspects of the position. This person must maintain quality control standards for the facility to ensure accuracy and precision of experimentation. S/he will assist with final manuscript and grant preparation.
The position is located in the School of Nursing but candidate may also be required to perform duties at other on-campus buildings and institutions such as the University School of Medicine and Pittsburgh Veterans' Affairs Hospital
TB test will be required as a condition of employment.
Hiring Range: $30,732.00 - $49,296.00
Education Required: Baccalaureate
Overall Related Experience Level Required: 3-5 years experience
Additional Education And/or Experience Essential To the Position: Bachelor's required- PhD preferred-Extensive/significant related experience may be considered in lieu of education. At least 3 years of laboratory research experience is preferred. Experience with laboratory purchasing and budget management preferred.
