Worcester State University, Department of Earth, Environment and Physics, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2017. We seek an interdisciplinary scientist enthusiastic about integration of physics and environmental science. Primary teaching responsibilities will include the two semester introductory physics sequence and an introductory environmental science course. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop new intermediate and upper level courses in their area of expertise that will contribute to and enhance both the department's physics and environmental science curriculums. Area of expertise is open but must include the application of physics to the study of the environment or as a means of addressing environmental challenges. Examples might include research on energy, atmospheric physics, or geophysics. Active research is expected and applicants should demonstrate a clear plan for involving undergraduate students in research and scholarship. Applicants' expertise should complement the department's existing expertise in physics, climate and environmental change. The ideal candidate will demonstrate: potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students; enthusiasm for contributing to the growth of both the physics minor and environmental science major; a commitment to public higher education; an interest in science education and outreach. The successful candidate will help shape a small, dynamic department dedicated to offering a quality liberal arts education and small class sizes in a public institutional setting. Our department offers bachelor's degrees in Environmental Science and Geography, and a minor in Physics. The standard course load is 12 credits per semester. Worcester State University is part of the Massachusetts state system.
