Professor and Director, CalCOFI Program
Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at UC San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) seeks a faculty member who will serve as the Director of the SIO component of the CalCOFI (California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations; http://www.calcofi.org/) program. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in ocean sciences or related fields, and research interests and distinguished accomplishments in multidisciplinary research in fisheries oceanography and/or biological oceanography. We are particularly interested in a fisheries scientist broadly defined, but other research areas could include, but are not limited to, pelagic ecology, physical-biological coupling, biological modeling, bioinformatics, and spatial ecology. The candidate will participate actively in teaching and mentoring, secure support for graduate students, and sustain an innovative, extramurally supported program of research.
CalCOFI is among the preeminent time series programs in the world ocean. Established in 1949, it remains a unique partnership among the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and SIO. The Director of the SIO component of CalCOFI will provide strategic leadership, effectively manage the program, connect the program even more closely to our academic and research activities at SIO and partner institutions, promote understanding and use of the results within California, nationally and internationally, initiate creative scientific research, and seek ways to enhance the program.
SIO is a world renowned center of marine research with approximately 200 principal investigators leading research programs on all aspects of earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences. The appointment will entail full time salary support as a Professor and Director of the SIO component of CalCOFI. Rank, level of appointment (Associate, Acting Associate, Full, Acting Full) and salary will be consistent with the applicant's qualifications and experience and with University of California pay scales.
