SUMMARY The Director of Vessel Maintenance & Repair is responsible for the overall management of all maintenance and repairs to all vessels owned or operated by G&H Towing Company, a ship-docking and harbor assistance tugboat company headquartered in Galveston, TX. Schedule and coordinate repair and maintenance of harbor tug fleet; coordinate purchasing of parts, repair services and supplies, schedule routine maintenance requirements for tugs. Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance standards and procedures. Keep Tugs in compliance with all regulatory agencies. Keep accurate records of all maintenance performed on vessels. Develop and execute annual maintenance budgets. Manage and supervise engineering projects, budget, and all Port Engineers. Collaborate closely with Operations and Safety Departments to coordinate schedules.
The position reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This newly-created full time, exempt position will based out of our Galveston, TX office. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Develops tracks and monitors maintenance and capital budgets without compromising company safety, or environmental and regulatory compliance of all vessels.
Provides the primary Engineering Team leadership and supervision.
Serves as the department head of the Engineering Team to ensure that uniform vessel engineering standards and procedures are in place and followed.
Provides support to Vice President of Engineering in developing operational input and requirements for the design, construction and major modifications of vessels.
Establishes and implements preventative and routine maintenance procedures/records.
Prepares and oversees maintenance and capital budgets for all vessels.
Controls equipment maintenance cost tracking, trending and assessment.
Manages all equipment records including technical data and those in support of regulatory agency compliance.
Prepares specifications, scheduling and management of shipyard periods.
Coordinates and manages relationships with outside services and vendors, including conducting price negotiations, contract management and quality control.
Coordinates required maintenance schedules with other departments.
Directly supervises warehouse manager in maintaining spare parts inventory.
Diagnoses and develops solutions to recurring problems.
Manages and approves maintenance work orders and supply requisitions for all vessels.
Manages shore side mechanic staff.
Supervises on site surveys of vessels to determine maintenance and repair needs.
Prepares updates to Safety Management System (SMS) when applicable.
B.S. in Marine Engineering, Maritime Academy Graduate and 10 years progressive management experience in related field.
Strong Management and organizational skills.
Substantial experience in shore side engineering management (project management, critical thinking and problem solving) and aboard vessels in an engineering leadership role.
Strong negotiation and communication skill, both verbal and written.
Technical writing skills are required.
Must have strong computer skills using MS Excel, MS Word and Auto Cad.
Desired: MMC as a licensed engineer, PMP certification, database management and development, MS Project experience.
