Department: C4I Center - Command, Control, Communications, Computing, & Intelligence
Research Instructor/Research Assistant Professor, Inference Enterprise Modeling
The George Mason University C4I and Cyber Center, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a Research Instructor or Research Assistant Professor to support a project in inference enterprise modeling. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.
The purpose of the research is to develop models to predict the performance of enterprises devoted to detecting insider threats. Current approaches to insider threat detection and mitigation are largely reactive and lack rigorous evaluation methodology. The anticipated research will address this deficiency by developing a multimodeling framework and testbed to aggregate predictions of multiple models. The framework and testbed will be applied to a series of challenge problems to predict the performance of real-world inference enterprises at detecting insider threats.
This position will be expected to develop inference enterprise models, perform research on integrating multiple models, support development of a multimodeling testbed, and supervise the activities of two to three graduate students who will support the research. The incumbent will communicate research progress to colleagues, at conferences, and by writing articles for publication.
Applicants seeking to fill this position at the rank of Research Instructor must have an earned master's degree in systems engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, operations research, cyber security or a closely related discipline. Applicants at the rank of Research Assistant Professor must have earned a Ph.D. in one of the above disciplines. The candidate is expected to be open to learning new tools and methods and to working productively on diverse teams.
Desirable background includes systems engineering, system architecture, enterprise modeling, information technology, machine learning, Bayesian inference, artificial intelligence, semantic technology, discrete event modeling and decision theory. Experience in cyber security and insider threat detection is beneficial. Applicants should have a strong commitment to methodologically sound applied academic research and to publishing in peer-reviewed venues.
