The Academic Business Manager is responsible for managing the business operations of the Department of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) at the University of Pittsburgh. This includes coordinating, monitoring and reviewing all accounting and financial operations, short and long term budget administration and development, human resource and payroll administration, facilities operations, project planning and management.
This position is responsible for providing overarching direction of the budget/financial resources for CCM. Collaborates with the Executive Administrator and Department Chair to develop and oversee the operating budget. Reviews both Pitt and UPMC budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs, and develop overarching business plans. This includes working with both fiscal units to ensure adjustments are made in accord with CCM's established annual budget and long term planning.
Provide oversight, recommendations, and approval for all CCM human resource functions for faculty, staff, postdocs, and student employees. This position also serves as the lead for the annual salary increase process for CCM and advises the Executive Administrator and Department Chair on the annual compensation increase policy to address equity, salary compression and market considerations.
Recommend and implement strategies concerning effective utilization of human resources in the unit. Centralized resource and consultant to all staff with regard to Human Resource matters within CCM. Direct contact and liaison to The Office of Human Resources. Final approver for CCM on all PittSource related issues.
Directs operational logistics for CCM. Plan and oversee administration of facilities, equipment and space utilization, including capital expenditures for new construction and equipment, as well as maintenance and repair of existing facilities and equipment for CCM. Works with the Executive Administrator and Department Chair to coordinate major renovations and new permanent space assignments in conjunction with School of the Health Science Facilities Management Office.
Hiring Range: $46,644.00 - $76,440.00

Overall Related Experience Level Required: 5-6 years experience
Additional Education And/or Experience Essential To the Position: At least five years of experience in an intermediate or senior level professional and/or administrative position. Advanced accounting certification ( CPA ) or MBA desired. Requires high analytical, computing, and communication abilities and an understanding of accounting in higher education. Knowledge of grants and personnel administration desired.
