The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Biomaterials/Bioinorganic/Inorganic Chemistry. We are interested in candidates that will expand upon our synthesis-application efforts in biomaterials. Examples include but are not limited to biomimetics, biomineralization of new materials or morphologies, tissue engineering and the synthesis/fabrication/design of biologically important solids such as bone replacement/repair, anti-bacterial, biosensing or anti-biofouling materials. The candidate should contribute to and aid in the expansion of our state-of-the-art characterization facilities including X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, solid state NMR and elemental analysis. Creative scientists with a strong record of achievement and commitment to excellence in both research and teaching are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in new campus-wide, interdisciplinary materials science and/or biomedical programs. The candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including supervision and mentoring of Ph.D. and undergraduate majors. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the UCSC academic community.
RANK: Assistant Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; academic year (9-month) basis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in chemistry, materials science, physics or a related field in hand at time of application and additional research training such as postdoctoral or industrial experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A demonstrated record of research excellence, and a demonstrated record of the ability for teaching excellence. An ability and willingness to teach inorganic chemistry courses.
