| Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director of University Financial Aid, the Director manages and directs the department's Financial Aid Client Services and Military & Veterans Affairs. Financial Aid Client Services is part of the University's central financial aid office and provides financial aid services for various contracted schools. The Director is responsible for supporting the oversight of all federal and state student aid programs, specialized processing, and counseling services as defined by individual school contractual relationships and overall University policy. The Director assists in establishing and revising financial aid procedures consistent with federal and state regulations, preparing institutional applications and reports, preparing for audits of federal and state student aid funds, and counseling current and prospective students and families on all matters related to financial aid. The Director administers educational and training support to the central financial aid office and the University community and provides oversight of business processes, cycles, flow, documents, and reports to ensure consistency across the campus community while recognizing the diverse business requirements across the 17 schools. The Director develops, modifies, and monitors central procedural controls related to the processing of financial aid for all schools of the University and provides leadership and PowerFAIDs expertise to administrators for process flow and control functionality. The Director builds collaborative relationships with the University financial aid community and advises senior management on a timely basis of needed improvements to processes and controls. The Director provides updates to the University's Financial Aid website and collaborates with University partners to review and analyze operational statistics, reports and other data including FISAP, NYSED, and, IPEDS. The Director assists with Satisfactory Academic Progress reviews on a regular basis to ensure students are eligible to receive federal and state funds and ensures timely processing of student withdrawals and associated Return of Title IV funds, in collaboration with Student Affairs, the University Registrar, and Student Financial Services. The Director coordinates the final phases of the PowerFAIDS system implementation and New Year Set-up in collaboration with the Director of University Financial Aid IT Operations and Loan Services. The Director also directs all aspects of service delivery in accordance with individual School contracts, including developing cost-of-attendance budgets, counseling, awarding, file review, packaging, verification, and reconciliation and identifies opportunities to provide additional services to Schools. The Director performs analyses of contract performance, including recommendations for increased revenue to cover costs of service delivery. The Director provides leadership and oversight to the Client Services and Military and Veterans Affairs staff and conducts financial aid presentations at contracted schools' Open House and Orientation sessions. The Director will perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested including, but not limited, to providing oversight of fund draw downs, reporting, and reconciliation and serving on University-wide work groups.|
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of seven to nine years' experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Proven leadership and management skills are necessary. Must have knowledge and experience in working with federal, state, and institutional programs in a regulated environment, a commitment to statutory and regulatory compliance, and expert knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid, including needs analysis and packaging. Experience in a team-based environment and excellent communication skills required. Proficiency with a student information system and reporting software required. Experience redesigning policies and procedures and implementing new business practices in multiple unit areas simultaneously to leverage emerging technology with improved student services required. Must have experience making data driven decisions, which requires strong analytical skills to monitor unit functions and implement continuous process improvement plans to support strategic campus-wide planning. Expert quantitative analysis skills, and skill and experience in project management and organizational effectiveness required. Must have an understanding of enrollment service operations and implementing continuous process improvement initiatives and the skills necessary to work effectively and collaboratively with senior University administrators and other campus stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and to work with several constituencies required as is a history of active engagement with and participation in regional and national professional organizations under the areas of financial aid. Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and able to manage and meet deadlines. Must be able to demonstrate excellent research, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work well with all levels of employees, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with financial aid software (PowerFAIDS, COD, ELM, EdConnect) preferred.
