Rutgers School of Social Work announces a new initiative focused on the integration of technology in social interventions. This University funded initiative is a partnership between the School of Social Work (SSW) and the School of Communication and Information (SCI). We are also recruiting a senior faculty position, holding appointments in both schools, and charged with development of an inter-professional institute. Each school will add faculty at the assistant professor level, and will recruit and support post-doctoral fellows and doctoral students working in the broad area of technology and social interventions. The new research group will have a particular focus on intervention research, but will also focus more broadly as it builds its team of research partners. We welcome applications from scholars interested in joining this exciting work.
This announcement is for an Assistant Professor, full time, tenure-track, in the School of Social Work. The successful candidates will enjoy working in a positive, energetic environment, be highly motivated, interested in collegial relationships with faculty and doctoral students and committed to advancing the reputation of the School. The research focus will be in the broad area of technology and social intervention, with a substantive area of focus in an area of social work intervention, broadly conceived.
Candidates must have a PhD in social work or a related field; applicants who do not possess a PhD must have one by the start date. Candidates must also have a strong record of research and scholarship; and ability to teach in areas relevant to the MSW/BASW curriculum. Faculty members are typically expected to teach two courses per semester in the School of Social Work; they must maintain an active record of scholarly publication and research; and participate in the civic and service activities of the school. We seek highly productive scholars, entrepreneurial and innovative thinkers, and engaged colleagues, with a strong commitment to public education and to social work research.
The Rutgers School of Social Work is among the largest in the United States, offering the BASW, MSW, DSW and Ph.D. degrees to over 1800 students across three campuses. The Camden, Newark and main New Brunswick campuses are located in dynamic areas of the Garden State, offering easy access to major eastern cities and Washington, DC, and great quality of life. New Jersey is one of the most diverse states, and Rutgers one of the most diverse student bodies, in the country. Rutgers has a strong commitment to principles of diversity and, in that spirit, actively encourages applications from groups underrepresented in higher education.
Our MSW program is delivered in several innovative ways, including traditional campus, intensive weekend, online and blended options. Certificates in Aging, Addictions, and Violence Against Women and Children expand our curricular reach. Our DSW program prepares senior social work practitioners for leadership in clinical and management arenas. Our Ph.D. program prepares students for careers in higher education, research and advanced positions in social policy arenas.
Rutgers is a major research institution and our faculty enjoy significant research ties with numerous, nationally known, university centers and institutes. The recent integration of New Jersey's medical schools and programs into Rutgers has created a rich environment for collaboration. Rutgers is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU) a federation of 62 leading research universities in the United States and Canada and of the Big Ten Academic Alliance an academic consortium of Big 10 universities that collectively engage in over 8.4 billion dollars in funded research each year. The School of Social Work's externally funded portfolio exceeds 31 million dollars, with some 15 million in yearly expenditures.
The School of Social Work is a collegial, productive and motivated faculty. A recent analysis by Academic Analytics found the Rutgers Social Work PhD faculty to be among the most productive in publications, citations, and research among social work faculty in the United States. The School's current centers and institutes include the Institute for Families, a multi-million dollar partnership with NJ's Departments of Human Services and Children and Families, the Center on Violence Against Women and Children, the Center for Leadership and Management, the Huamin Research Center and the Center for Gambling Studies.
