We are seeking a successful communicator with a record of engaged and collaborative leadership in teaching, research, and collections support.Lead the department in cultivating its role in support of scholarly communication (open access, new modes of scholarly publishing, open educational resources, copyright, data related research services).
The RSS Department at the UCSC University Library develops and provides online and in-person teaching and research support for upper-division undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. RSS librarians contribute to the identification and provision of collection support needs of the UC Santa Cruz campus community by serving as divisional liaisons to the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical & Biological Sciences, and Engineering divisions.
Under the general supervision of the Associate University Librarian (AUL), Collections & Services, the Head of Research Support Services is responsible for leading and managing four professionals in the areas of:
Department & Library Leadership
Lead the department in developing the role of RSS divisional liaisons.
Serve as an active and contributing member of the Library Management Group.
Serve on relevant University of California and local committees and groups.
Campus & Library Community Outreach and Support
Identify opportunities for and lead RSS outreach initiatives to traditional and non-traditional library partners in student and faculty support.
Partner and collaborate with colleagues within Collections & Services and across the library in support of student learning, faculty teaching, and collections support.
Lead in the marketing and communication of RSS department services to the campus community and library partners.
Actively support and promote library-wide services.
Teaching & Collections Support
Lead and collaborate in the development, design, and implementation of methodologies and tools in support of online and in-person research and teaching support.
Provide leadership and collaborate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of tools and services for collections support.
Lead the RSS Department in keeping current with campus collection support needs; facilitate communication of campus collection support needs to the AUL, Collections & Services.
Depending on subject expertise, serve as a contributing member of the Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences and/or Physical & Biological Sciences/Engineering divisional teaching and collections support teams.
Lead the RSS Department in divisional needs assessment activities.
Collaborate with campus and library partners to assess the impact of RSS services and support to the campus community.
Additionally, librarians at the University of California Santa Cruz are members of the Librarians Association of the University of California (LAUC). Research, publication, and/or service to the University and profession are expected for continuing advancement.
RANK: Associate or Full Librarian, Potential Career
SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution or master's degree (or equivalent foreign degree) with emphasis on current, innovative pedagogical methods
Experience managing and leading teams of professionals, including goal setting and evaluation.
Demonstrated experience in leading and participating in outreach initiatives/programs
Extensive teaching support experience
Demonstrated research support experience
Demonstrated experience in partnering with faculty in integrating research methods into coursework
Experience with implementing assessment methodologies
Experience with teaching and/or presenting about scholarly communication issues (open access, copyright, data management, and digital initiatives)
Doctorate degree (or equivalent foreign degree) with emphasis on current, innovative pedagogical methods
Project management experience
Demonstrated collection support/collections liaison support experience
Extensive teaching and outreach experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a team member in a diverse community
