Network Engineer Job Description Under the direction of the Network & Systems Administration Manager this position is required to design, build, manage, and monitor the University infrastructure. Including firewall, switches, routers, wireless network, LAN, VPN, and telephone system and be an active member of the IT disaster recovery team. Responsibilities include monitoring and troubleshooting hardware, OS and application performance issues. Assist in the implementation of the University data security policies. Additional responsibilities will include management of multiple projects of varying complexities and priorities.
Essential Duties Strategy & Planning: Collaborate with department leaders to assess near- and long-term system and network capacity needs. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system and network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system and network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Deployment: Design and deploy servers, LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including Firewalls, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. Conduct research on server and network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the system and networking industry. Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades. Interact and negotiate with vendors, and contractors to secure network equipment and services.
Operational Management: Configure systems and networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling University objectives and processes. Perform network administration (Server racking and cable management in accordance with University datacenter standards and procedures). Monitor system and network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Practice server and network asset management, including maintenance of system and network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Participate in managing all system and network security solutions. Install, configure and troubleshoot Windows Server 2003/2008. Experience of Virtualization VMware and Hyper-V. Experience with Products from HP, Cisco, VMware, PRTG, Dell, Google Apps, Microsoft online and Apple. Will serve as backup support in areas of Helpdesk, Networking and Telecommunication Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Required Qualifications Regionally accredited Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) and/or equivalent of education and experiences. Or hold a current Network Professional certification or higher
Minimum Requirements 4-7 years progressive IT-related experience involving small to medium development projects. Current certification of networking hardware required, CCNA. Current certification CCNP, preferred

Ability to follow complex technical instructions. Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions. Self-starter and detail oriented.
