DEVOPS ENGINEER, edX, to use strong systems administration background and programming skills to help develop and maintain the infrastructure in AWS for all services and systems required to run the edX website. Responsibilities include helping design and deploy high-availability systems, working with developers and staff to maintain and improve the edX infrastructure, and rapidly diagnosing and resolving faults with services.
The DevOps team (of five) primarily focuses on the provisioning, configuration, deployment, and monitoring of services at edX. The edX production environment is hosted in AWS on servers running Ubuntu Linux and is actively working on extending its use of containerization, specifically via Docker.
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science; at least three years' systems administration experience; excellent working knowledge of Linux both as an end-user and as an administrator; proficiency with programming/scripting languages; familiarity with a configuration management system such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef; experience running web applications in a production environment; and excellent personal interaction skills for interfacing with a wide range of people up to board level. Python experience and strong polyglot skills preferred. Experience with some of the following technologies would be ideal: nginx, MySQL, MongoDB, Django environments, Splunk, and Git. Should demonstrate a passion for automation, configuration as code, and metric-based decision making.
