The Cal Teach program at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool
of qualified temporary non-tenure track lecturers for its undergraduate education, should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year (through July 31, 2017); those interested in remaining in the previous pool must reapply. Positions may range up to 33% time, and may begin in the Fall
Cal Teach courses include introductory seminars focused on science or math teaching in elementary and middle schools, Knowing & Learning in Math and Science, Classroom Interactions: Focus on Equity in Urban Schools, Research Methods, Project Based Instruction, History of Science and Math, and Apprentice Teaching for student and intern teaching support. Teaching or co-teaching a Cal Teach course includes holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, and preparing course materials. Responsibilities may also include assisting with student field placements in local schools, providing supervision and support to student and intern teachers in their classrooms, and supporting Cal Teach students through the credentialing process. Basic qualifications: Masters degree or equivalent degree is required at time of application.
Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate degree or equivalent degree. At least 3 years of secondary math and/or science teaching experience is preferred, particularly within the Bay Area. Undergraduate teaching experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities are also desirable. The ideal candidate will also have practical experience with scientific laboratory or field research, or science or mathematics education research and program evaluation.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
