| Minimum Qualifications: MD, DO or PhD in genetics, Molecular Biology or related field, certification or eligibility for certification in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genetic Testing (limited to Molecular) and Oncology (Molecular and Cellular Tumor Markers) by the New York State Department of Health. A minimum of 4 years of clinical laboratory experience, including 2 years of experience in clinical cytogenetics. Board certification in Clinical Cytogenetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics (ABMGG or comparable board) is preferred.|
Job Standard / Operational Needs: Responsible for overall operation of Cytogenetic services provided by the Dept. of Pathology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: a) Review, interpret, and sign out cytogenetic results for clinical case reports, b) Handle day-to-day problems and provide consultative assistance to other health care providers, c) Ensure correct testing is offered for the stated diagnosis, d) Investigate and implement new procedures and instrumentation, e) Coordinate with the Supervisor for laboratory management (budget, purchasing, policies, procedures, equipment, etc.), f) Coordinate with the Supervisor for technologist training and competency, g) Provide instruction for residents, fellows, medical and med tech students, h) Serve on appropriate committees, panels and education programs, i) Eligible to obtain or maintain C of Q in Cytogenetics and Genetic Testing (limited to Molecular) and other permit categories for NYS Dept. of Health, j) Maintain laboratory accreditation for DNV, NYS DOH, CALGB, and COG, k) Review quality control, survey and inspection data, l) If credentialed in molecular testing, assume similar responsibilities for the Molecular Diagnostics Lab in the absence of its Director.
