The Director of Individual Giving, a senior member of Yale Law School's Development group, is responsible for leading and managing a dynamic fundraising program to generate philanthropic support from alumni and friends of the Law School in support of the annual operating budget, facilities, and the endowment.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Development, the Director is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, donor-centric strategic plan for the Individual Giving Program and annual work-plans that develop and foster sustainable philanthropic support from individuals in support of YLS' annual operating budget, endowment and facilities. He/she will be responsible for establishing meaningful and measurable goals for success for the Individual Giving Program, monitoring and reporting on progress towards those goals, and meeting annual revenue and activities targets. The Director will hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff members assigned to the Philanthropic Engagement (PE) program (which focuses on personal interactions with major gifts, leadership gifts and planned giving prospects and donors) and the Marketing and Volunteer Engagement (MV) program (which focuses on direct marketing and peer-to-peer fundraising).
This position will manage a fund raising portfolio of 75-100 highly qualified major and leadership gifts prospects, and will be expected to meet personal annual revenue and activities goals. The Director will be responsible for prudent oversight of financial resources directed to the Individual Giving Program. This position will recruit, mobilize and coach a volunteer corps of alumni. Building relationships with key volunteers is expected to be done in a highly personalized manner, frequently through travel and face-to-face meetings. The Director will serve as a key adviser to the Associate Dean of Development and the Dean of the Law School on gift strategies and will facilitate visits for senior leadership and faculty with prospective donors. The Director will also work with the University's Central Development Office's major gifts, principal gifts, and planned giving staff members to coordinate strategies on prospects with interests in multiple Yale schools and programs. May perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Bachelor's degree and 10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with client-centric, metrics-focused organizations. Direct marketing, peer-to-peer fundraising experience, campaign planning and management, and fundraising experience at a law school or other institution of higher education preferred.
Required Licenses Or Certifications:
Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in related field and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
