Each division will have its own responsibilities, but each specialty may include but is not limited to the following:
For Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Clinical instruction and supervision in all phases of oral and maxillofacial surgery and pain and anxiety control. May involve presenting seminars.
For Orthodontics: Clinical instruction and supervision of all phases of orthodontics and dentofacial orthodontics. May include presentation of seminars to advanced education students.
For Pediatric Dentistry: Instruction in clinical areas and serve as attending dentist for predoctoral and advanced education students in Pediatric Dentistry.
For Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic: Clinical consultative services involving diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment planning for persons with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial anomalies.
For Periodontology: Clinical periodontal teaching and supervision of dental and dental hygiene students and graduate periodontology students. Evaluate student competency in relation to all facets of clinical periodontology. Advise and consult in regards to periodontal and dental issues. Monitor student-patient relationships.
REQUIRED ACADEMIC PREPARATION: DDS, BDS, or DMD and completion of an advanced education training program in the appropriate specialty.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Private practice or teaching experience. Minnesota dental or dental hygiene license required.
For Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery--Required Academic Preparation: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery certification equivalent to CDA accredited training program. Required Experience: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice experience.
For Orthodontics--Required Academic Preparation: Successful completion of an accredited advanced education program in orthodontics. Board certified or board eligible. Required Experience: Experience in the clinical practice of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
For Pediatric Dentistry--Required Academic Preparation: DDS/DMD degree from an ADA accredited dental school and completion of an advanced education training program in Pediatric Dentistry. Required Experience: Minnesota dental license required; experience in clinical practice and teaching highly desirable.
For Cleft Palate/Craniofacial Anomalies--Required Academic Preparation: DDS, DMD, MD and/or advanced degree in appropriate dental, medical, speech, hearing, psychology specialty. Required Experience: Demonstrated interest and at least 2 years experience in specialty.
For Advanced Periodontology--Required Academic Preparation: DDS, BDS, or DMD and MS or certificate from a formal periodontology training program. Required Experience: No teaching experience required.
For Predoctoral Periodontology--Required Academic Preparation: DDS degree with special interest/strength in periodontics. Dental Hygienist: BS degree with special interest/strength in periodontics. Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years practice experience.
