Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager to whom he/she is assigned or the Administrative Director of Clinical Laboratories, incumbent has leadership responsibility and appropriate authority for administrative, personnel and fiscal functions as assigned.
Under the direction of the medical directors, and in conjunction with the laboratory Manager and/or Administrative Director, the incumbent is responsible for the coordination of technical functions, general organization, and daily operations of the laboratory section to which he/she is assigned.
As such, the incumbent is expected to actively participate in continuous re-engineering activities of his/her assigned area, support/direct continuous quality improvement efforts, ensure the quality and timeliness of patient testing activities, and be an active and collaborative participant in all meetings and other departmental activities as directed. The incumbent ensures that customer needs are met by a technically competent staff in a manner consistent with excellent customer service. Strong knowledge of all facets of Histology: principles, knowledge and application of - tissue processing, special stains for tissues, FFPE embedding, microtomy, positive identification of materials, reagents, instrument use, PM and troubleshooting, etc.
Supervisor experience including, but not limited to hiring/coaching, scheduling, dismissal, training, competency assessment, financial budgeting, supply ordering, data capture, reporting, workflow, work assignments, software workflow, validation, equipment management, PM, troubleshooting, problem-solving, investigation, error reporting/resolution, customer service internal & external, safety, document control, quality control, write/revise SOP, teambuilding, process control, recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, etc.
Five (5) years of experience in a full-spectrum clinical Histology lab, with all aspects ofhistology.
Three (3) or more years in a full-scope supervisory role.
Demonstrated leadership, training, and customer service skills.
Possess demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements for hospital & lab accreditation.
Possession of a current HT(ASCP) certification or HTL(ASCP) certification.
Five (5) years or more of histology experience in an academic medical setting.
Supervisor experience in an academic medical setting; familiar with Supv. role in labor contracts.
CAP team assessor experience
A Bachelor's Degree.
Must be able to work all shifts, week-ends, holidays, overtime, and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs.
