| Our MATERNITY AND INFANT CENTER includes the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum/newborn units as well as the lactation and perinatal flex (float) team and triage beds. Staff are unit-based, with daily staffing to AWHONN standards. We have about 150 deliveries a month and, of those, 70% are high-risk. |
This position is for a Labor & Delivery Unitbased assignment. Labor & Delivery admits normal and medically complex mothers for triage, labor management, childbirth, immediate post-delivery recovery and, as a WHO Baby Friendly certified Maternity and Infant Center, immediate infant breastfeeding when possible. RNs stay with their patient to circulate on their patients' surgical deliveries, and may also attend deliveries as the baby nurse in normal deliveries. RNs are supported in managing complex patients requiring intensive monitoring and multiple medication drips with staffing according to AWHONN standards, and additionally by the needs of the patient as determined by the nursing staff. RNs may be required to float to the Mother-Baby Unit and Antepartum Unit when needed; there is also an L&D Flex Team for supplemental staffing. As an Academic Medical Center, there are multiple OB and Anesthesia providers, including the attending physicians, in the unit 24/7. Neonatal providers are in the hospital 24/7.
