CAC computing and consulting services help campus researchers accelerate discovery and broaden impact. CAC also serves the national community as a partner on the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) project, PI of the Aristotle Cloud Federation, and training partner on various projects including Stampede and Jetstream.
The Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) is seeking a Deputy Director to maintain a leading-edge, self-sustaining Center that provides enhanced research computing support to the Ithaca campus. In addition, the Deputy Director will be responsible for maintaining and increasing the Center's participation in the national computing ecosystem and assuring that CAC remains well aligned with the overall priorities of the Research Division and the Office of the Vice Provost of Research. The Deputy Director will:
Support the Director's vision for Center growth and sustainability and implement effective strategies to achieve it.
Increase the number of CAC, faculty, and partner-led grant proposals submitted to public agencies.
Build and sustain external relationships with federal and state administrators and Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation and research community leaders that foster trust and create ideas that result in new funding opportunities.
Participate in national outreach (e.g., SC, XSEDE, and other conferences), federal proposal review panels, and industry outreach activities that increase Center visibility and prominence.
Speak at national, regional, and institutional workshops and events.
Publish in industry conference proceedings, peer-reviewed scholarly journals, and partner publications.
Expand relationships with University deans, business officers, and faculty resulting in greater awareness of Center capabilities, growth in the number of campus research collaborations, and increased use of Center computing and consulting services.
Build and sustain relationships with researchers and administrators at Weill Cornell Medicine and other Cornell locations in New York State and around the globe.
Monitor and manage the Center budget.
Work in partnership and with the guidance of the Director in management activities of the Center, i.e., staffing, computing and consulting services, meeting grant milestones, implementation of new technologies, etc.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Informatics/Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in high performance scientific computing. Must be technically proficient in research computing technologies and programming. Established record of securing grants and successful proposal writing. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to build faculty trust and external partnerships. Publications on HPC technologies and/or the application of these technologies within a scientific domain. Good people skills with the potential for growing into an expanded management role over time. Willing to travel up to 40 days per year.
Ph.D. preferred with 10 years' experience or more in high performance computing with at least 3 years in leadership position(s).
