The Minnesota English Language Program in the College of Continuing Education is seeking a pool of qualified instructors for part-time, adjunct Teaching Specialist positions for terms during the 2016-17 academic year. This posting is intended to create a pool of candidates to call upon if course enrollments warrant adding additional sections in a given term. Applicants will ONLY be contacted if needed. Fall semester begins in September, spring term begins in January, and summer semester begins in June.
The Adjunct Teaching Specialist is a temporary, part-time position in the Minnesota English Language Program. Adjunct Teaching Specialists will be responsible for teaching courses in the Intensive English Program, Academic English Program, and/or a Short- Term Program. These are temporary, non-tenured positions paid on a per course basis. Adjunct instructors will be hired on a per term basis based on program needs.
Position duties include planning and teaching one or more ESL courses; attending weekly staff meetings and orientation; collaborating with other teachers in the program on curriculum development; and student assessment and other program duties as assigned.
Required qualifications: 1) MA in TESL or a closely related field in hand by time of appointment, 2) at least one year of ESL teaching at the college or university level in the U.S., 3) evidence of an excellent teaching record, and 4) superior communication skills in English.
Preferred qualifications include significant experience teaching ESL at the college or university level; successful completion of an ESL practicum course (with documentation); experience mentoring new ESL teachers in one’s own classroom; experience teaching diverse groups of students in a variety of settings; experience integrating technology into language teaching; strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work well on a team; experience and interest in curriculum development; and evidence of continuing professional activity.
