The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach Mongolian language should an opening arise. The pool will remain in place for two calendar years; those interested in remaining in the pool for multiple years must reapply. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the Department, but we hope to offer Mongolian language beginning Fall 2015. Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
Minimum full time annual salary is $49,012, salary commensurate with experience. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): teaching one or more sections of first-year Mongolian language (beginning 2015-16) and second-year Mongolian language (beginning 2016-17); supervising graders, tutors, graduate student instructors; holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials, maintaining a course website and compiling teaching materials.
Minimum basic qualifications: B.A./B.S. or equivalent by time of application; native or near-native fluency in Mongolian. Additional qualifications: good command of English; M.A. by date of hire in Teaching Mongolian as a Foreign Language, Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching Mongolian and ability to teach different levels of the language at the college level; experience with computer-assisted instruction, online courses, and language instructional software is highly desirable.
